| Intro | Do the experiment yourself! | The exhibition | Archaeology is not a dull science! | Information | Partners | ||
For decades now archaeologists have been trying to reconstruct life in earlier times on the basis of all sorts of finds. However, the artefacts found often generate numerous questions. How exactly was the artefact manufactured? What precisely was it used for? Experimental archaeology is the field of science which tries to answer this sort of question. First the objects from the past are copied (reconstructed). These copies can then be used in experiments. These experiments come in two types: trial experiments, looking for new ideas and hypotheses on the one hand, and scientific experiments made to to test such ideas and hypotheses on the other hand. The ARCHAEOLOGY EXPEDITION! project introduces you to both types. You will have the opportunity to find out more about all sorts of techniques and technology from the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, the Roman Era, and the Middle Ages! Clay, bone, wood, leather, wool, flint and bronze are some of the materials you will have the opportunity to work with!
This is not to be missed!
